The Surpassing Greatness of Jesus: The Reason and Remedy for Spiritual Drift

Passage: Hebrews 5:11-6:20

The possibility of spiritual drift is true for all Christians. Every Christian goes through seasons where we lose our heart and passion for knowing and serving the Lord. What makes a Christian vulnerable to spiritual drift is our unwillingness to apply and use the truth we are learning from God’s Word. We are warned in James 1:22 to not merely be listeners of the Word but doers of it. In order to keep us from falling into spiritual drift, the writer of Hebrews gives us a word of warning, and word of promise. The word of warning is the possibility of falling away from our faith in Jesus into spiritual apostacy. The word of promise centers on the assurance we have through Jesus that God will keep all His promises to us. The hope we have in Jesus is an anchor for our soul, firm and secure.
