The Surpassing Greatness of Jesus: The Promised Eternal Inheritance
Christians are given a powerful reason to persevere in their faith. The promise of an eternal inheritance. The Apostle Paul found great help and encouragement in his trials and sufferings from knowing about his eternal inheritance (2 Corinthians 4:16-17). In Hebrews 9:15-17 our inheritance is compared to a last will and testament, with Jesus being both its architect and executor. This means Jesus gives us everything He had, and Jesus’ greatest possession was His relationship with God as His Father. The inheritance every Christian receives is the same glorious and life-giving relationship with God that Jesus enjoys. Jesus’ death on the cross activated the will enabling us to receive this amazing inheritance. Every Christian has already received a down payment to this inheritance through the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14) where we presently enjoy the benefits of having a personal experience of God’s presence in our lives.
