The Surpassing Greatness of Jesus: The Glory of God’s Gift Through Jesus
Christians who go through times of trials and hardships, or when they feel their faith in Jesus begins to cost them something, their natural tendency is to back down from their commitment to Jesus. The writer of Hebrews addresses this problem by encouraging Christians to stand firm in their faith, and not step down from their commitment to Jesus. He does this by creating a powerful vision of the surpassing greatness of Jesus. When Christians become convinced in their hearts that nothing is better than Jesus, that He alone meets the deep needs of the heart, they will be able to stand firm in their commitment to Him. In Hebrews chapter 1 we learn that through Jesus we can have a personal and transforming experience of the glory of God. The Old Testament religious system was incapable of providing this experience, but through Jesus, we can have a personal relationship with the Lord of glory as a gift of grace.
