Our Covenant God: The Covenant of Law

Passage: Exodus 19:1-8

The beauty and glory of having a relationship with God is revealed through God’s covenants with His people. God’s covenant with Moses traditionally known as the covenant of law, reveals a very unique dimension of the glory of having a relationship with God. The law was never intended to be a means for earning God’s acceptance and love. Instead it was given as a means to transform us into a glorious community that reflects God nature, His goodness and love. The law was intended to transform us into a loving community, a distinctive community, and a representative community. But because of human sinfulness, the law itself couldn’t accomplish these good things. Therefore God sent His Son into the world to come under our curse for us for failing to obey God’s law, so that all God’s covenant blessings could come into our lives through His obedience. Jesus fully obeyed God so that through faith in Jesus we can become a glorious community that reflects God’s glorious nature.
