Passage: Genesis 22:1-14

One of the realities of our Christian faith is that God often tests our faith. The story of Abraham is a powerful illustration of the testing work of God in our lives. God tests our faith in order to refine and strengthen our faith (1 Peter 1:6-7). When a person becomes a Christian, they make Jesus the center and foundation of their life. But this decision is often made in principle. In practice other foundations for life often remain. The testing of our faith exposes these false foundations helping us to see the superiority of having Jesus as our foundation. These tests are often very painful. But God knows that if we build our life on worldly things we will be disappointed and devastated in the end. When God tests us, He graciously puts His hand on these false foundations now, so that we will freely offer them up to Him, and make Jesus our foundation for life, saving us from eternal destruction.
